Ed, Et, and Iddie?
Amazingly, even though the words ‘wanted’, ‘helped, and ‘called’ all end in ’ed’…the endings are each pronounced differently; /id/, /t/, and /d/, respectively. It would be nice for language learners to always have clear rules as to how to handle pronunciation strangeness, but that isn’t always the case. Here, though, we do have some pretty good and clear rules. Now, recalling them in the middle of a presentation or conversation…? That’s another story.
So, while you may benefit from the patterns presented here…really I’m still practicing making tables and embedding audio on the website.

英語学習者にとって、発音の奇妙さをどう扱うか、常に明確なルールがあればいいのですが、必ずしもそうとは限りません。
ここでは、かなり良い、明確なルールの事例をご紹介します。
まあ、プレゼンテーションや会話の最中にそのルールを思い出すかどうか…？それはまた別の話です。
というわけで、ここで紹介したパターンがお役に立つかもしれませんが…本当はまだ、私がウェブサイトに表を作ったり、オーディオファイルを埋め込む練習をしているところなんですけどね。
母音で終わる単語は、”ed” の /d/ の発音を使います。
例： – followed – enjoyed – played – tried – continued
