This post is way more out of selfishness than anything else…
Amazingly, though the words ‘houses’, ‘plays’, and ‘eats’ all end in ’s’…the endings are each pronounced differently; /iz/, /z/, and /s/, respectively. It would be nice for language learners to have clear rules as to how to handle pronunciation vagaries, but that isn’t always the case. Here, though, we do have some pretty good and clear rules. Now, recalling them in the middle of a presentation or conversation…? That’s another story.
There are three ways of pronouncing ‘s’ at the end of a word in English. The pronunciation of words ending in ‘s’ depends on the final consonant sound.
So, while you may benefit from the patterns presented here…really I’m just practicing putting tables and audio on the website.

言語学習者にとって、発音の迷いをどう処理するか、明確なルールがあればいいのですが、そうとは限りません。（英語は例外が実に多い言語です- by訳者）
しかし、ここでは、かなり良い、明確なルールがあるのです。とはいえ、プレゼンや会話の最中にそれを思い出せるかどうか…？それはまた別の話ですね。
英語では、語尾の’s’の発音には3つの方法があります。’s’で終わる単語は、最後の子音によって発音が変わるということです。
まあ、ここで紹介するパターンがみなさんの役に立つかもしれませんが…実は、私が表や音声をこのサイトに載せる練習をしているだけなんです。
